In The Writing Life, Annie Dillard talks about freedom. She talks about how freedom is deciding everything on your own, “It is life at its most free, if you are fortunate enough to be able to try it, because you select your materials, invent your task, and pace yourself.” Freedom is making your decisions based on yourself and not society or some other pressure. Dr. Redick also talks about freedom in his article about axis mundi. He talks about shepherds being away from civilization and living in the wilderness, being free to set their minds free, and about hikers being free to just walk and also set their minds free. Being in the wilderness is freedom to do what you want, but it teaches you what you want.
