"I am afraid, in duration- this industrial vadilism can be compared only with the desert badlands of the West. The Damage has no human scale. It is a geological upheaval. In some eastern Kentucky counties, for mile after mile after mile, the land has been literally hacked up into pieces." p. 169
This quote expresses Berry' s disgust for man's creation of wastelands. We have created them in places of supreme beauty. We cannot contain our greed, so humans do whatever it takes to get whatever we want. We must transform our selfish attitudes into positive one's. Attitudes that designate man as only one component of the world. We must live in a way that preserves us and nature, and creates a world to preserve the world.
