Benjamin Ray-Stonehenge: A New Theory. History of Religions (1987): 225-278.
In Benjamin Ray’s article, he believes that the study of Stonehenge has become unproductively focused on the details of the astronomical features of the monument. He is unhappy with most research going towards its use as a solar and lunar observatory. Religious Historians have ignored and avoided the study of Stonehenge out of fear of challenging the popular astronomical purpose of the monument. The article discusses the religious significance, due to the discovery of the barrows, which were long burial chambers, and they date from 4000 B.C. to 3500B.C.
I thought this article was original and courageous to attempt a new perspective led by religious ceremonies. It tried to do something different, when most other scientific personnel focus on the heavens.
