Joel Holsteen - Unstting of America #1

In Wendell Berry's "The Unsettling of America: Culture and Agriculture," he brings up the point of a time where there was no threat of urbanization and industrialization, and it was "good to get out of the city." I am happy to here that there was a time where this principle was believed and followed. However, it saddens me to realize that times have changed so much in the fact that most people now want to stay in the city and make money and if they do take a break or vacation they travel to another populated city or resort which represents a fake wilderness. For example most of the popular vacations are to exotic places where people go to experience what they think are they are the real lifestyles and experiences of the locals however they are not real at all. They are convenient representations of what they hope them to be. I wish that we could go back to the views of past generations and not have to worry about urbanization and industrialization, but we do so we should make the best of it and try to escape this world every once in a while and enjoy what wilderness and nature we have left.
