Kelley Brown- Outside Reading #1

As stated in the Bible in the book of Mathew, chapter 4:1, "Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil." Jesus went out into the wilderness where there would not be any distractions to keep his mind at all astray from the Lord. However, the devil came and tempted him, trying to get him to stop fasting and to turn away from God. "Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only" (Matthew 4:10). Jesus took a pilgrimage out in the wilderness, just as many others did in the Bible--John the Baptist, Moses, Paul, etc--and many still do today. Some go out hiking while others go out to places in Jerusalem, such as the Dead Sea, the Temple, Mount of Olives, etc. Nature is such a great place to get away and spend time with the Lord because you are surrounded in His Beauty and His Creation and you do not have all of the worldly distractions around you.
