Dr. Redick’s article about axis mundi is also similar to The Practice of the Wild in the fact that they both start out defining important words. Dr. Redick’s article is more related than The Four Loves because it defines wilderness and The Practice of the Wild does also. They both talk about different ways to look at the meaning of the word. They both also speak of the wilderness as sacred grounds; using history and examples to back it up. These two readings have taught me a lot about respecting wilderness and the people like our ancestors that lived in the wilderness. They have taught me the differences between society life and what one could call “real life.” A life without humanized environments.
