David Hahn, Wasp From In Class Discussion

5/1/08

-My Choice

When Dr. Redick was talking about how that one type of wasp (I forget what type it was) a while back would leave its food (I think that’s what it was at least) outside of a hole in the ground which it dug, how the wasp would search inside the hole to make sure no predators were there, while doing this a biologist watching over the wasp would remove the food from outside the hole, and when the wasp would come up to get the food, it wouldn’t be there so it would go find more and come back to the hole, and this process would repeat until the wasp died of exhaustion. I was really amazed after learning about this, and I was astonished how single minded the wasp is in this routine and actually gets itself killed from its own stubbornness. I’m kind of curious now if there are any other types of wasps or creatures like this species of wasp, it’s very interesting.
