David Hahn, Spiritual Aspects of Water

5/1/08

-From Craig Barne’s On the wild side

In Craig Barnes article, he makes a couple of very interesting points, “People are in the wilderness because it is the place where souls are reshaped, and they cannot come out until this sacred creativity is done.” He also says, “After years of wandering around in the desert with my congregation, I’m starting to look for the blessing that simply comes along the way.” Barnes calls streams or water, “the symbol of God’s grace that saves our lives on the way.” This article, even though short makes three very strong points on how nature or wilderness regions, coincide with spirituality and religion. It also shows how something so simple as nature or being outdoors in the wilderness can affect peoples spirits or change completely the way they live or see God. Also water is being a key resource to any wilderness area, and can easily be found because most areas have rivers or lakes and if not; usually there will be moisture from near by plants.
