Think Little: "We need better government, no doubt about it. But we also need better minds, better friendships, better marriages, better communities."
Berry couldn’t state the problems our country has today any more clearer. A better government—indeed is something we need. First off, take a look at some of our previous top leadership. America is supposed to be a republic—we are supposed to be equals and have a collective interest, objective, and vocation. Voting is supposed to be taken seriously by everyone, yet a lot of people are not educated enough on the problems and actions being proposed and political leaders take advantage of that. Representation of the people is weakened, money isn’t being allocated properly, national debt is outrageous, and dishonesty is everywhere in politics. Marriage isn’t taken as seriously today as it was say 50 or 100 years ago. Cheating, dishonesty, and divorce are also common in marriages. Also in the nation there is a large amount of lies, theft, drug use, rape, and murder. It is embarrassing and shameful how people act. Our nation overall does not seem to have the “harmony” with each other or the land that Berry believes to be important. It is as though the purest part of America is the nature that is left.
