The Appalachian Trail -- Jessica Schwier

In Professor Redick's class, we discussed the Appalachian Trail tons. We've seen pictures and videos proving what a powerful place it is. In his writing, he shows works of those who have hiked on the trail. On the trail, hikers encounter religious experiences and even lose all sense of time. They are no longer sitting in traffic in a packed city. They are always at ease, with nothing to worry about. We have read many things on the Appalachian Trail and the religious experiences it gives hikers. One two-time thru hiker writes :
I am soooo blessed to be here again
The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
Surely one is closer to God's heart on the AT
Than anywhere else on earth.
This proves what a strong connection these hikers have to the trail, and the feelings it evokes from them. Away from society with no rush, they have time to enjoy our landscapes and reflect on whatever they please. Many speak of returning because it is one of the best experiences of their lives. It is a powerful place and I hope to experience something like it one day. The people who have hiked there seem so carefree and relaxed. It is a life-changing experience to everyone who hikes it. I had a great time reading about the adventures of those on the trail, and seeing videos of the AT hike.
