Eric Kennedy Reflections on Dillard #2

Eric Kennedy Reflections on Dillard #2

In Three, one of the questions I keep asking myself is, How is one supposed to enjoy nature in today’s society?

As I read Dillard’s Three, I think that there are only a few feasible ways for someone to enjoy nature on the level Dillard speaks of in her books. For the average person there are many concerns that apply to daily life, and for an appreciation of nature that Dillard speaks of, there are only a few things that these concerns and obligations will allow the average person can do. Sure we’d all like to take 6 months off from our life to just enjoy the Appilation trail, I know I would. But this is not feasible for the majority of people. How now do they appreciate nature. Well a simple camping trip to Newport News park could be an option, I feel like it’s a bit structured, but at least if someone took their kids camping they would learn to enjoy nature at a young age and maybe over the years they would appreciate it more and more. This is a simple and easy way, also day hiking is another good possibility and I thoroughly suggest it. There are other ways too, that include canoeing etc. but these two are the most feasible. Enjoy.
