Eric Kennedy Personal reflections (the C+O Canal trip) #2
Through out the trip I could not help but feel an overwhelming sense of calm. Despite the nagging question in my previous blog, I did feel a sense of calm. School and work had been getting me a bit stressed, as it does everyone, and this trip I felt was a way for me to escape it. Although taking a week off from school and work made me broke, and I had to do a lot of work before the trip because I had papers due and a test to take the week I was absent. This kind of made me more stressed, but as soon as I was out on that trail I felt a calm sweep over me. There was one instance in particular that put me so at ease that I just forgot all about my worries at school and work and just enjoyed the majesty of the place. This was when we stopped along the trail to view the great falls. This waterfall is on that straddles the border of Virginia and Maryland. The view was amazing and I couldn’t help but to feel like I was part of something that was bigger than me, this country, or even the world and it’s affairs. The falls seemed to be flowing as if uninterrupted by our presence. They had been here long before us and I hope that preservation keeps them here for the future.
