Allen Grace on Annie Dillard
I have been meaning to write this all semester. The first blog should be about her third book, The Writing Life. Hated it. Most awful waffle read I have ever done. She is scatter brained more than the rest of us, and talks just about writing. She writes about how being a writer is boring, and her midnight chess match with a kid, and working the graveyard shift in Virginia. This book was definately a work of desperation, as it does not even hold a single thought to the end of a paragraph. She criticizes her profession by asking who would call a good day a day spent reading. She is also very repetitive in this work. She beats the beat, and writes the same thoughts and words over and over again. She writes about writing in a boring room with a window and looking out the window, and it just gets boring. It does have some valid examples of what writing is and should be, but they are white washed with all the other crap that spews from the pages.
