kelsey Garegnani -The unsettling of america#2

"that no sane creature befouls its ow nest is accepted as generally true.  What we conceive to be our nest, and where we think it is, are therefore questions of great importance"

I htink in our modern society we have changed our view of our nest from previous times.  At one point i think we thought of the world as a place where we all lived...and therefore would treat it as such.  Today though we have divided the world into smaller nests, each feeling responsible for their own and unconnected to other's.  This could be in the sense of each person or each state or even group as wide as country or continent.  This sectioning off of our larger nests into individual nests has divided responsibility and consequently left some areas unaccounted for.  Because even though we try to divide things up there are things we all still share.  We can then ask the question of how did this separation begin?  I think that as we gained more modern conveniences we steadily grew away from relying on communities and other people to becoming more independent.  As our independence grew we sought our own spaces and did not look so highly on sharing or community.  These two, gaining independence and seeking more separate space, feed continually of each other.  The mindsets then created by this cycle makes us only think about "our nest" and not he protection or conservation of other's nests or even the great nest we all share.  We are too consumed with our own affairs and well being other nests have stopped mattering.  Thats why people now are trying to help the environment but having trouble getting support or direction.
