Derek Terrell: Choice Topic: Mind Altering

For my topic of choice I would like to focus on the mind altering affects that nature can inflict upon us. Many people who are brought up during this time and day are really agriculturally civilized. What i mean by this is, there brought up with the idea that almost all if not all the joys in life can be found from a plug and outlet. By this i don't mean that people don't go outside or witness nature, but instead they only see nature as something that is around them that they have to travel around to get from one place to another. I feel like if people were exposed to a couple hours of nature each day, then by the time they were young adults they will have a better understanding of the importance of nature. People who have already grown to appreciate the importance of nature can see experience mind altering affects in different locations where nature is dominant. For example when Redick interveiwed the hiker on the AT with the small puppy companion. This guy wasn't too thrilled about the social evironment that the nature around him brought to the trail. But after awhile it kinda grew on him and he began to appreciate the different atmosphere that this nature trail offered. More common examples are seen with people who are traveling on the AT to get away from the normal society by seeking a certain connection with nature on the trail.
