David Comeau- nature reflection in the DR

This next reflection actually begins with a journal entry that I wrote in a nature setting while I was in the Dominican Republic during a three month mission trip I went on after my senior year of high school.
“God is good. He has given me the perfect day. I am sitting here at the confluenzia, sitting out on a rock in the middle of the river with my bible and my journal. I rode my moped down a main road then exited onto a dirt road, then a dirt path and then I got off and hid it behind a rock and walked to where I am now. I have not seen another person for about an hour now. There is not a cloud in the sky. The spot I am at is incredible, just to my left the two main rivers in Jarabacoa meet and cross each other. One river is light blue and fairly clear while the other is dark and murky. When they come together the colors mix and then 40 yards in either direction they are back to their original colors again. For some reason, I cant get enough of it. It is just such a simple display of how intricate God’s creation is”

Whenever I reflect back on my trip to the DR I remember my Monday mornings. Every Monday morning I would get on my bike and head to a different nature spot to reflect, pray, and journal to get ready for my week. There were six beautiful waterfalls within reasonable distance as well as this spot on the river. I just remember how amazing it was to take a short break from my crazy life at the school and orphanage to rest in the Lord.
The day I wrote this journal entry actually ended up being my favorite day of the whole trip. I started off my morning truly resting and enjoying the lords presence before getting to the school by my first class at one. I just remember feeling so on fire and ready to tell people about this awesome God I love. After school a boy named Edwin asked if I could take him home. We ended up going out for ice cream and it was a perfect chance for me to tell him about Jesus. We did a bible study (in Spanish) at the ice cream store and then I went home with him and had coffee with his mom where I was able to tell her about God and about how he showed me his beauty that morning at the river. Whenever I think of it, it reminds me of God’s glory and the importance of resting in him in preparation for and during ministry.
