Eric Kennedy reflections on Berry (The Unsettling of America) # 2
In reading the chapter called The Body and the Earth, I found myself questioning my attitude toward our biological existence. Where do we have an obligation to our bodies? And then to the earth?
The first question about our biological existence, is do we have an obligation to our bodies? And this is a simple yes. We do in fact have an obligation to our bodies, that being said, to what lengths does this obligation extend? The answer I think is one that is necessary, we are obligated to live, and make sure our bodies have the best care possible. I get unnecessary stares from people who I know are against my tattoos. This to me is something I think falls under the realm of personal responsibility to our bodies. Yes we should take care of our bodies, but in doing that I feel like our bodies need adornment. Some say you must treat you body as a temple, but even a temple need some new paint every now and then. Just a thought.
