In C.S Lewis’s work, he talks about the love of nature. He says that the Loe of nature is not being concered with an activity of discrimination or ciritque nbut of being moved by the moods of time and season, the spirit of the place. In discussing this he talks about how a botanist loves nature. HE studies it thoroughly, analyzes it, picks it apart. He separates part from whoel and thinks of it scientifically. A landscape artist does a similar crime as the botanist. He critiques it, mimicks it on paper, and makes it concrete. Both of these types of people, C.S lewis says, would annoy the true nature lover. They do not look at nature the right way, They do not experience it. The true nature lover is “moved by the moods of time and season, the spirit of the place. To be united with nature and transformed by its spirit. They do not pick apart different aspects but become one with the whole.
I really like the way he describes a nature lover. It is definitely that in order to truly enjoy nature we can’t dissect it, we have to look at the whole. By picking it apart and analyzing it we can’t possibly see the picture God has painted for us. To experience nature we have to quiet ourselves and let nature speak to us. This is how we can “experience nature” and be moved by it.
