kelsey garegnani-wilderness in the bible
When reading the bible, iv noticed many of the same idea of wilderness as being a sacred place of communication with the divine as we talked about in class. Some of the people i saw involved in this were mentioned in your paper Wilderness as an Axis Mundi. Moses, and the the entire Israelite people for example, were led into the wilderness where they were able to hear directly from God. John the baptists is an example of a new testament prophet who prepared for his ministry by retreating in the wilderness to speak to the Lord. I feel even people who are skeptical or not nature people cant help but see the trend over time that continues to exist. If being in the wilderness or nature has offered a sanctuary to so many people over the years can we even doubt there is something about it that invites communication with divinity or in the least sense an opportunity to understand yourself better? I feel that it is an open invitation to such and therefore should be respected and protected instead of disregarded and replaced with human works. Human design does not compare to the handiwork of God. It is not as intricate or perfect or beautiful yet tat is what we surround ourselves with.
